The Real World
Last night we had another of the “debates” for the 2008 election. At least this time there was actually a little life in it, unlike the first two.
The best line of the night went to Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, “We’ve had a Congress that spent money like John Edwards at a beauty shop.”
The recent revelation that John Edwards spends $400 for haircuts has shown how out of touch all of these candidates are with the real America. I really don’t care if he spends that on a haircut, it’s his money it’s his right. But people here in the Midwest see that and think what the hell? I am sure that many on the left coast and the elites on the right coast don’t even bat an eyelash at it.
But it is not only John Edwards. We have a mayor in New York who says he is willing to spend $1,000,000,000 of his OWN MONEY to run as an independent!
All of the major top candidates for President are millionaires. Most have been in politics for a long time, some too long. Of the top 10 only one has even released their 1040 forms, the rest are refusing to, why? What is there that they need to hide. They are trying to get elected by the people of America to the top office, we have a right to know who they really are, who funds them. But they feel, that we as the people who hire them do not.
This brings me to the real problem we have today. Politicians no longer represent the middle class Midwest’s working families. These people will tell us they know how hard it is to make ends meet, How hard it is to get that paycheck to stretch a little further each week so we can pay bills, deal with rising gas and still hopefully have a few bucks left to take the kids to DQ. But they have no idea what it really is like, they are just offering talking points provided by their writers.
They don’t know. They don’t care. American politics needs a major overhaul, but life time politicians like we have today running congress and running for preidenst will never allow that to happen. The American people don’t seem to have the desire to make changes.
So politicians will become less and less in tune with what middle America understands as the real world and they will continue to pretend they are just like you and me, while flying in private jets, attending $1000 a plate dinners and spending vacations with their other underprivileged friends on the cape.
